About Breakglass

Breakglass Studios is an artist-run recording studio, creative facility, and cultural space in Montreal. Built around a long history of recording, production, mixing, live performance, and community-driven music projects, Breakglass has grown into a home for artists working across rock, electronic music, hip-hop, experimental music, pop, ambient, and club culture.

Founded by members of The Besnard Lakes and shaped over the years by a wider team of producers, engineers, artists, and collaborators, Breakglass has been part of Montreal’s music landscape for more than two decades.

Today, Breakglass brings together full-service recording, self-serve production rooms, a professional DJ booth, private events, label projects, and immersive audio work under one roof. Artists can come here to record a full album, rehearse a DJ set, build a track, host a private event, or develop a project from first idea to final release.

Breakglass is led by Jace Lasek and James Benjamin, whose combined work spans independent music, electronic production, mixing, engineering, live performance, and internationally recognized records. The studio remains rooted in the same idea that has guided it from the beginning: give artists access to serious tools, thoughtful collaborators, and a space where ambitious creative work can happen.
